Job Description Summary

The Director serves as the leader for the redesigned intensive English program at Miami University. Building on prior success, the Director will be responsible for establishing and overseeing the development, operation, and accreditation of the program. The Director will play a key leadership role in creating a sustainble, innovative, and entrepreneurial English language program, operating toward accreditation from the Commission on English Language Programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Management. Develop and implement a comprehensive, student-centered curriculum aligned with best practices in English language instruction, and a clear academic pathway for students, including assessment tools to monitor progress and outcomes. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, including scheduling, resource allocation, and student services.
  • Accreditation Leadership (CEA) Lead the program’s efforts to achieve and sustain CEA accreditation, including the preparation of accreditation materials, self-study documents, and compliance reports. Ensure that the program meets CEA standards for quality in areas such as curriculum, faculty qualifications, student services, and administrative policies.
  • Faculty and Staff Leadership. Recruit, train, and supervise qualified faculty and staff members to meet programmatic needs.
  • Student Support and Engagement Develop strategies to support student retention and success. In collaboration with international student support colleagues, promote a student-centered learning environment that encourages engagement, cultural exchange, and language development.
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting Develop and execute a strategic vision for the IEP in alignment with institutional goals with data driven metrics.
  • Budget and Resource Management

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Masters degree; eight years of experience in English language program administration in a higher education setting; and demonstrated ESL teaching skills.

Consideration will be given to applicants with Ph.D. in appropriate related field; significant international experience; strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and implement a strategic and entrepreneurial vision for the program; organizational skills; effective communication and customer service skills; demonstrated interpersonal skills, including working with international students, faculty, and staff; ability to foster multicultural perspectives.
