Job Summary:

This position is a multi-functional position within International Academic Programs (IAP), a unit in The International Division, which serves as the largest study abroad office at UW-Madison. IAP administers more than 300 campus-wide study abroad & domestic study away programs and internships and annually sends over 3,000 UW-Madison students abroad. Responsibilities:

Advises domestic students on opportunities, academic policy, and requirements for international study for academic credit. Advises students in support of the goal of preparing them for the global and interconnected world. Assists in providing guidance for international students on navigating institutional and academic policy and requirements.

  • 60% Advises domestic students about international study opportunities
  • 5% Counsels international students and support systems on cultural adjustments, policies, and procedures
  • 5% Identifies and refers students to appropriate institutional resources and follows-up on referrals
  • 5% Provides guidance and reviews documentation for registration and academic credit transfer requirements according to policies and procedures for international travel and study
  • 20% Identifies, plans, and delivers international education programming
  • 5% Participate in office committees and working groups to help with program and office administration

Tasks:

  • Counsel and advise prospective students through Exploration Advising sessions about the various aspects of study abroad program opportunities.
  • Counsel and advise students and parents on student preparation and personal needs throughout the study abroad experience.
  • Maintain and update Intro to Study Abroad Advising Canvas site
  • Present study abroad information to prospective students
  • Assist with orientations for programs, including monitoring attendance and conducting regional orientations
  • Develop and coordinate advising workshops
  • Assist with visa collection for group visas
  • Act as a back-up for the front desk and for our passport photo service
  • Support curriculum integration initiatives
  • Provide administrative support to the IAP Assistant Directors
  • Participate in department meetings and retreats. Assist with special events and outreach activities, such as the Study Abroad Fair.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor or IAP Director.
  • Act as a notary for study abroad student's materials.

Qualifications:

1. Prior experience, as a student worker or professional staff member, working in a study abroad office or student services office

3. Demonstrated experience working independently with strong attention to details, resourcefulness, and organizational skills to meet important deadlines in a high-traffic, high-demand environment.
