Wofford College’s Office of International Programs (OIP) invites applications for Assistant Dean of International Programs. Reporting directly to the Dean of International Programs, the Assistant Dean coordinates all faculty-led study abroad programming (including Wofford’s Interim travel/study programming), serves as an advisor for partner-sponsored and Wofford-administered study abroad, and serves as a risk manager in incident management overseas. The Assistant Dean also supervises the study abroad advisor.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position located in the Office of International Programs. The normal work schedule is 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend hours will be expected along with some domestic and international travel and professional development opportunities. Minimal hours of work performance is 37.5 hours/week.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

50%   Faculty-led Programming

  • Provide guidance to program leaders for program development and implementation, timelines, and pre-departure and reentry workshops 

  • Manage budget preparation, application processing, orientations, supervision, reentry programming and marketing

  • Coordinate and support international independent study and internship Interim opportunities with Interim Coordinator

  • Serve as primary risk and crisis manager for all faculty-led programs

  • Connect faculty with external logistical and study-abroad partners

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders for billing and financial aid support of faculty-led programs

  • Review and process travel grant applications

  • Evaluate program success and viability annually

25%   Affiliate Programming

  • Advise students regarding semester and summer study-abroad opportunities 

  • Lead study abroad student orientation sessions

  • Serve as risk and crisis manager within the Office of International Programs

  • Distribute international programs data (internally and externally) 

  • Provide updates to internal stakeholders regarding study abroad enrollment and scholarships for billing, housing, and financial aid purposes 

  • Communicate with external partners regarding study abroad applications, scholarship applicants, and marketing initiatives 

  • Respond to parent and student concerns  

  • Represent the OIP to market international programming to prospective students and their families  

  • Represent OIP office when Dean is unavailable 

  • Manage Terra Dotta online application software (portfolio management, application process, data collection) 

  • Oversee course mapping initiatives with input from internal stakeholders (faculty, registrar, etc.) 

  • Process a portion of applications for off-campus study 

  • Review and process travel grant applications 

20%  Supervise the Study Abroad Advisor

  • Serve as supervisor to study abroad advisor

  • Support Study Abroad Advisor in administrative oversight when Study Abroad Advisor is out of the office 

  • Serve as mentor for Study Abroad Advisor in program design, advising, oversight of student ambassador program, and marketing initiatives

  • Train Study Abroad Advisor in TerraDotta setup and process implementation

5% Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, related, delegated, or appointed.

  • Support the Dean in special projects as needed to meet internationalization initiatives or as assigned. 

  • In the absence or at the request of the Dean, represent the Dean and/or OIP for specific needs, functions, or events.

  • Stay abreast of current developments and trends in international education, study-abroad, or related and attend appropriate trainings, seminars, or conferences as required.

  • Perform other duties or services, in contributing to the mission and needs of the College, including serving on committees or other projects or assignments as delegated, appointed, or elected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Appointment requires a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and minimally 3-years of experience working in education abroad. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in International Education or related field is preferred. Additional requirements and desired skills include:

  • Previous experience coordinating and/or supporting various facets of faculty-led study abroad programs (program development, budgets, logistics, and incident management)

  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to working with students from diverse and underrepresented populations in study abroad

  • Demonstrated experience in navigating different cultural contexts

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to present information in a clear and engaging manner for multiple stakeholders

  • Proven success with project management and strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work well independently and within a team

  • Demonstrated use of sound judgment in solving problems

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth within education abroad

  • Familiarity with Terra Dotta (StudioAbroad) software and proficiency in using Microsoft Office or Office 365

  • Proficiency in a language other than English (preferred)

  • Understanding of website maintenance via a content management system (preferred)

  • Experience studying and/or working in different countries (preferred)

  • Previous experience supervising and/or mentoring others (preferred)
