Xavier University is a Jesuit Catholic institution located in the city of Cincinnati. The Education Abroad Office is seeking an Assistant Director for Education Abroad to advance global learning opportunities for students through management of study abroad program portfolio, advising, and outreach.

This position is responsible for the administrative, organizational, and communicative tasks required to manage a portfolio of study abroad programs. The role advises students through the entire study abroad process from outreach to re-entry, and supports students, faculty, and staff to ensure compliance with university related policies related to risk management, academic credit approval, and financial aid.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive advising to students about available study abroad programs, including semester and short-term opportunities, international internships, research abroad, and service-learning programs
  • Coordinate, recruit, and administer bespoke Xavier study abroad opportunities, such as the XU in Peru Center and the STEM in London study abroad semester
  • Support and coordinate education abroad outreach initiatives to students, such as study abroad fairs, classroom presentations, campus visits, information sessions, and admissions events for prospective students
  • Co-facilitate pre-departure orientations and re-entry programming
  • Maintain study abroad software system and processing of student applications (around 500 students each year)
  • Maintain relationships with partner universities, partner programs, faculty leaders, and departmental contacts across campus
  • Manage evaluations and assessments of study abroad programs
  • Serve as secondary emergency contact for faculty and students while abroad

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required / Master's degree preferred in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in international education and/or study abroad experience
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and intercultural communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Experience working with and advising undergraduate students
  • Familiarity with study abroad best practices
  • Working knowledge of study abroad software (preferably Terra Dotta) and/or willingness to learn
  • Experience studying/living abroad preferred
  • Second language ability preferred, especially Spanish
