Responsibilities

  • Serves as first point of contact advisor to Florida State University students about exchange programs during one-on-one advising and in group information sessions. Provides comprehensive student advising and support on topics such as program selection, course selection, and application process.
  • Maintains communication with students while abroad and upon return to provide ongoing support. 
  • Facilitates pre-departure and re-entry programming and contributes updates to program content and materials.
  • Assists with other student advising and administrative processes, including revisions and updates to exchange process and communication in Terra Dotta data management system, as needed.
  • Creates and maintains program and application information in Terra Dotta Study Abroad software platform.
  • Collaborates with international partner institutions to receive and submit student nominations by deadlines.
  • Liaises with FSU university offices on matters related to exchange students including Registrar, Financial Aid, and Student Business Services as well as academic department coordinators and faculty advisors for specific exchanges.
  • Participates in communication to students regarding travel safety and risk management as needed.
  • Processes transcripts from partner universities using established conversion scales and submits to University Registrar.
  • Prepares and presents information sessions to promote Global Exchanges throughout the FSU community.
  • Assists in identifying groups to target for outreach for global exchange opportunities.
  • Contributes to ongoing assessment of programs based on student feedback and review of current processes.
  • Assists with structured reflection activities for students while abroad on exchange programs to develop intercultural competencies and collect photos and testimonials to help promote programs and student outcomes. 
  • Coordinates, together with CGE Intercultural Program Manager, the Global Nole Buddy Program. Provides oversight to this FSU student volunteer group including recruitment, selection, and organization of events to support incoming exchange students.
  • Attend all major CGE programs and events. Attend major Division of Student Affairs (DSA) functions. Serve on CGE, DSA, and university-wide committees. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • At least two years’ experience working in a higher education setting advising university students and working with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication as well as public speaking.
  • Experience working in an international education or study abroad office.
  • Experience studying/living/working abroad and knowledge of a second language.
  • Working knowledge of issues related to international educational exchange, including best practices in study abroad advising, pre-departure facilitation, risk management, and cultural adjustment resources.
  • Experience with Terra Dotta Study Abroad software platform or other study abroad data management systems.

Anticipated Salary Range

Starting in the high $40,000's to low $50,000's, commensurate with education and experience.
